Ultra-Powerful Xbox One X Unveiled

The new Xbox One X, known previously as Project Scorpio, is ‘the most powerful console ever made’ says Microsoft.

(CCM) — Microsoft has unveiled the new souped-up version of its Xbox One console which was previously known as Project Scorpio. The company has officially named the product the Xbox One X, after revealing it at the E3 games show in Los Angeles before the official opening. The new console is slimmer than the Xbox One S, another Xbox One variant which the company released earlier this year. Like the Xbox One S, the Xbox One X offers 4K video streaming, and is targeted at hardcore gamers. It is fully compatible with all existing Xbox One games.

The new console runs games at 60 frames per second (fps) and is equipped with 12 GB RAM and a graphics processor capable of carrying out 6 trillion floating point operations per second. This compares favorably with Sony’s flashship PS4 Pro console, released last November, which offers 8 GB RAM and operates at 4.12 trillion floating point operations per second.

Last year at E3 Microsoft hinted that project Scorpio would be a platform for virtual reality gaming, but the company made no mention of VR during the Xbox One X announcement, and no VR games are being launched with the hardware. The company did announce 42 new games to go with the console, however.

The new Xbox One X console will go on sale on November 7, priced at $499.
